100m2 of goods collected in the Stor-Age Create Happiness Drive have been distributed to organisations
In August, leading self storage company Stor-Age donated several truckloads of clothes, toys, books and furniture to the Maranata Care Centre – an organisation based in Pretoria which supports the homeless.
Maranata, founded by Daan and Marlene Lensley in 2006, is a commune that provides transitional housing, financial support and skill training to the working poor. In doing so, Maranata hopes to empower individuals to reclaim their independence, gain skills, obtain jobs and receive a second chance in life.
The goods, which were accumulated in Stor-Age’s annual “Create Happiness” collection drive, came at a crucial time for the organisation which is still recovering from a tragic fire that burnt 10 housing units and claimed the life of one of its inhabitants in July this year.
Due to the event the Centre has experienced a severe lack of housing and supplies for the 80 families that live there. However, volunteered support and donations from organisations such as Stor-Age are helping to aid in the restoration of Maranata.
“It is stories like these that fuel our passion for the Create Happiness Drive”, says Chris Oosthuizen, National Marketing Manager at Stor-Age. “In the most recent drive we collected 100m² of donated goods across stores nationwide for the distribution to organisations in need, such as the Maranata Care Centre. We take our hats off to Daan and Marlene for their selfless work over the years and wish Maranata the very best of success.”
