An enthusiastic group of golfers took a mental health day in support of the patients at Valkenberg Hospital, on 12 May 2017 at Rondebosch Golf Course.
Maxwell Mboxela assisted with the prize giving after sharing some of his recovery story. Maxwell spoke last year about the practical experience he was gaining being a part of the Friends team managing the “Friendly Shop” at the Hospital. He was delighted to share that he has now secured a position as intern with the Hospital for the next year – a significant step in his recovery journey.
The Friends of Valkenberg Trust (Friends) works in conjunction with medical staff at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital to promote the recovery of people with a psychiatric disability. This means that people with serious mental illnesses can return to their communities better equipped to continue their recovery journey and manage their illness.
All funds raised at the event will be used to manage a range of recovery projects that Friends offers, together with 60 weekly volunteers. If you would like to know more about this initiative please contact Sandra Matthew on 021 447-2092 (mornings) or firstname.lastname@example.org
