It teaches basic computer skills and provides practical interview preparation. It also includes life skills, such as communication, relationships building, and work ethics, as well as customer service skills such as working with difficult customers and basic maths for the cashier. Yanga Filtane, one of the learners at FCD, says: “I learnt new things like computer skills, life skills and communication skills. This is helping me to apply my skills and my experience so that I can send my CV with good confidence. Thanks FCD for opening my mind.”
Filtane is one of eight women in Durbanville (aged 20 to 45 years old) who attended a three-week job readiness course in November, with financial assistance from the Rotary Clubs of Tygerberg and Claremont. One has already received work at Pick ‘n Pay, while two more are registered for further frail care training. FCD and Rotary look forward to more success stories in the new year.
