Business has an obligation to adapt its corporate social investment (CSI) to changing needs and conditions rather than doggedly following an approach which may no longer be relevant. Speaking at the 2019 Trialogue Business in Society Conference in Johannesburg today (SUBS: Wed 17 04), Ms Takalani Netshitenzhe Chief Officer Corporate Affairs Vodacom Group, said that Vodacom has allocated R500 million to education, gender empowerment and sanitation in schools over the next five years.

Image: The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment’s Fourth Annual Cycling Tour YOUNG INMATES CYCLED 240 KM IN THE WESTERN CAPE TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF CRIME

The only cycling trip in the world where incarcerated youth cycle alongside free citizen youth and happened 25th to 29th of March 2019. The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment (TPA) has brought together 22 cyclists; 12 incarcerated youth,  2 youth from Die Herberg Kinderhuis and 8 leaders from Correctional Services (7) and Die Herberg Kinderhuis (1) to cycle 240 km through the Breede River Valley area in the Western Cape. Our food production plant is equipped with Industrial food processing equipment and walk-in freezers. To produce these meals, we use some 800 kg of potatoes and 600 kg of meat per month, not to mention the large quantities of veggies, rice, samp, lentils and dry beans. Sounds too good to be true? To the casual passers-by on a blustery day on Durban’s famed beachfront, it’s just a surfing lesson in the Indian Ocean’s warm seas. But a closer look reveals a story that’s far more interesting and inspiring. The two surfing instructors are S’nenhlanhla “Sne” Makhubu and Sihle Mbuto. They’re promising young semi-professional surfers who’ve been mentored by the charity Surfers Not Street Children, which works with vulnerable young people through surfing, and which has been supported by British Airways for more than a decade.   Read More...
